Wuppertal, 4 February 2016. At this years “all about automation”, leading international system and solution provider Schmersal is showcasing its innovative system components for the efficient securing of hazard areas in modern industrial companies. This new generation of security components and systems for safe signal processing being presented by the Schmersal Group at the trade fair in Essen, Germany, offer machine manufacturers and users a series of real benefits. They fulfil the higher demands on safety technology, are multi-functional, cost-effective and help contribute to increased plant availability. They are also flexible to incorporate into integrated safety technology concepts.
Electronic RFID safety sensors and interlocks
ISO 14119, which has been applicable since 2015, requires measures to protect against the bypassing of locking mechanisms (manipulation protection), i.e. to prevent machine operators from bypassing or switching off safety equipment. This requirement can be met using the safety switches in the RSS range from Schmersal, such as the RSS 16 or RSS 260. These no-contact switchgear systems allow the sensor and target to communicate via a safety-oriented detection principle based on RFID technology. This provides the conditions to enable selection between two types of coding depending on the manipulation protection level required.
RFID technology is used not only in safety sensors, but also in safety interlocks such as the
AZM 300 and the AZM400 for heavy safety doors, which has only been on the market for a few weeks. Here, the electronics combined with the sensor system allow additional functions such as detection of error statuses in order to avoid unplanned machine or planned downtime. The main
characteristics of the AZM400 also include electronically powered locking bolts, closing force of 10,000 N and bistable operation.
Systems for safe signal processing
Safety relay components are a space-saving, cost-effective technology for analysing safety signals. The new PROTECT SRB-E series from Schmersal has the advantage that a wide range of applications can be covered by just eight basic models. Each component can be configured for up to eleven different applications via an easy to use controller.
The new PROTECT PSC1 safety controller from Schmersal consists of a freely programmable compact controller with IO extension modules for signal processing of mechanical and electronic safety switchgear. In addition it is possible to monitor up to 12 axes using the comprehensive functions. The PSC1 is not only compact and modular in design, it is also extraordinarily flexible to use, as it offers the option of configuring individual safety systems on a software basis. At the same time, only one piece of hardware is required to establish a connection to all standard fieldbus systems.
